Morton Steinhart was the son of J.W. and Lizzie Morton Steinhart. He attended Nebraska City schools and received his law degree from University of Nebraska in 1913.

Morton continued his fathers work with the canning industry and built Morton House Kitchens into the national recognized cannery.

Mr. Steinhart was instrumental in bringing American Meter Plant to Nebraska City; the building of The Lodge was dedicated to his father, John, and together John and Morton gave it to Nebraska City. He also had a hand in the beginning of Wildwood Park, the Period House as well as Steinhart Park.

Mr. Steinhart helped develop the Arbor Day Foundation and assisted with the purchase of Porter property for the foundation.

Mr Steinhart was the 1965 Arbor Day Honoree, Arbor Day Awards 1975, Rotary Honoree, Arbor Day Foundation Land Donor Award, Outstanding Chamber Recognition Award 1977, 1973 Leadership Member of the Boy Scouts, Singer-American Meter award for Interest and Support 1953-1978, Award for support of Peru State College and Major Hall Campaign 1980, The Chancellors Club-UNL.
